Why Seating Arrangement is Important in Lecture Theater

Lecture theaters are mini auditoriums where lectures for the student are held, especially if the number of students is large. The foremost advantage of such a theater is that all the students may get occupied in the theater and lectures that are spoken over large sound systems such as speakers reach all the students effectively. However, if there is not a proper seating arrangement in place for conducting such lectures, things may turn out to be as ineffective as teaching each student individually.

This is because when lecturers discuss a topic, they might need to draw or write on the board to make complex things clear. However if the seating arrangement is not in an ascending manner, it may get very difficult for the students at the last to see what a lecturer has written. Furthermore, this may lead to a lot of commotion and eventually cause disturbance in the lecture hall.

Another point to keep in mind is that the lecture theatre seating should be arranged in a semi-circle manner with the lecturer and his board being the centre of the diameter of the semi-circle. A square shaped arrangement of the seats may make viewing the board inconvenient for the students at the far corners of the arrangement.

Make sure that everything is in place when thinking of developing a lecture hall, including the seating. I say that because making a student attend the whole of a lecture is a herculean task and any inconvenience might be just another reason for them to not attend the lecture.
